Kitchen Team Job Description

The Kitchen Team will involve 2-3 people each week including a Kitchen Team Head/Head Cook. This is a vital role to the functioning of the camp – it couldn’t happen without the Cooks. The following responsibilities are the general functions of those on the Kitchen Team and to be their primary focus for the week.

The Kitchen Team will be responsible to:

  • Learn and implement proper food preparation and cleaning procedure in the Kitchen including Health Department requirements.
  • Prepare meals for all campers and staff.
  • Prepare snacks as requested by the Program Director.
  • Work closely with the Dish Washing/Housekeeping Team to ensure that kitchen resources get clean and put away after each meal.
  • Work with the Camp Director to determine how many servings there will be for each meal.
  • Work with the Camp Director to determine any special dietary needs accommodations.
  • Monitor and assess food stores, supplies, and resources and communicate needs to the Camp Director.
  • Coordinate and instruct other helpers including campers and (potentially) other camp staff to help in the Kitchen.
  • Ensure that the Kitchen is clean after every meal.
  • Interact with campers in a loving, enthusiastic manner being mindful that your example can impact lives for Jesus Christ.
  • Be spiritually minded and prepared through a daily prayer time and Bible time (even now in preparation for the summer).

The Kitchen Team Head/Head Cook will have demonstrated competence and/or experience either as a Glad Tidings Kitchen Team member or in the past or in a similar role elsewhere. Ideally, they would have direct experience and/or certification in Food Service and/or Food Service Management. If they do not have certification, Glad Tidings will pay for them to become a certified food handler. They will take a leadership role and ensure that these core activities are being completed. This may involve making decisions, directing campers and (potentially) other staff, communicating with the rest of the Kitchen Team and with others in leadership roles including the Program Director and the Camp Director, and maintaining the resources needed to perform the functions of the Kitchen Team for that week of camp. The Kitchen Team Head is responsible to the Camp Director.
